MObile SlateTalker (MOST) is a versatile assistive software currently running on Android devices developed for the blind and nearly blind. The app is usable through a braille mask specially designed for this purpose. The MOST application is free of charge. Manufacturing costs depending on the phone model must be paid for a special braille mask required for the operation of the app.
Main features of MOST:
- The use of MOST requires no sight of any level
- A MOST user must have or acquire basic skills of braille writing (reading skills are not needed)
- The braille mask allows entering texts and numbers. It does not serve for reading braille
- The application conveys information by audio signals, speech and vibration
- MOST can be used with 3rd party Speech engines installed in the Android system, plus MOST's reliable own built-in speech synthesizer is available at any time
- MOST substitutes or complements the screen-reader running on the same mobile device
- Most frequently needed activities can be performed by a blind user more conveniently through MOST than using the phones factory solutions

How to get MOST?
The MOST application is free of charge. Manufacturing costs depending on the phone model must be paid for a special braille mask required for the operation of the app.
Individuals wishing to become MOST testers/users must first own or obtain a supported mobile device before contacting us to make a personal appointment. After an on-site registration, MOST will be installed along with the braille mask on the device at the Csillebérc campus of the Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Budapest. On demand, a short training may take place after the installation during the same visit. The new user then leaves with a fully functional MOST device and with the ability to autonomously use and explore the app's features.
